How drops work in MU
In MU, what a monster drops comes from two sources: the regular drop, rolled among items flagged as “droppable” according to the monster's level, and special drop rules that tie an item to a monster level range or a map. Server files show both.
Regular drops
Every item has a field in the file saying whether monsters can drop it (DropItem). The server rolls among those items taking the monster's level into account. The global rate and how long items stay on the ground are server settings:
| Season 3 | Season 4 | Season 6 | Season 20 | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Item ground time (s) | 30 | 30 | 30 | 40 |
| Zen ground time (s) | 30 | 30 | 35 | 20 |
Values found in the GameServerInfo files of each emulator package we analysed. They are not official rules: every server sets its own.
Special rules (ItemDrop)
Some items have their own rule: they drop from monsters within a level range, on any map or just one. Jewels, boxes and event items usually live here. Items with special rules in the documented files:
Finding a specific item
Open the item's page: the “How to get it” section says whether there is a drop rule, for which level range and map, or whether it is a regular drop only. On a monster's page, the special rules section lists what applies to its level.
What changes between servers
Servers change drop rates and add custom items and event boxes. The codex's numbers show the emulator file; the server you play on may differ.
FAQ
How do I find where an item drops in MU?
Check the “How to get it” section on the item's page. It shows drop rules by monster level and map, or says the item is a regular drop.
Why does an item vanish from the ground?
Ground items have a time limit set by the server. In the files we analysed, the values are in this page's table.
