How to download and install MU Online

Every MU server has its own client: there is no “universal MU” that works everywhere. So the right download is always the one on the official site of the server you will play on. This guide walks through installation and how to avoid fake files.

Before downloading

  • Pick the server first. The client version (97d, Season 6, Season 20…) must match the server.
  • Only download from the server's official site, ideally by typing the address. Be wary of links in groups, videos and third-party “full versions”.
  • Check disk space: old clients take a few hundred MB; new-season clients can take several GB.

Step-by-step install

  1. Download the client installer or archive from the official site.
  2. Install or extract it to a simple folder such as C:\Games\MU, outside Program Files.
  3. Install the Windows components MU clients use: Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable (x86 and x64) and the DirectX End-User Runtime.
  4. Open the server launcher and let it finish updating.
  5. Set resolution and window mode in the launcher options.
  6. Create your account on the server's site and log in.

If something goes wrong

The most common errors have their own guides: won't open, black screen, DLL error and antivirus.

Account safety

  • Use a password only for MU, different from your email's.
  • Never give your password to a “GM” in game or on Discord: staff never ask for it.
  • Do not use third-party programs (bots, hacks): besides bans, they are the most common way accounts get stolen.
