Chaos Machine (Goblin) in MU
The Chaos Machine, run by the Chaos Goblin NPC, is where MU's combinations happen: +10 to +13 items, wings, event invitations and other recipes. Each combination has a success rate set by the server. Below are the rates found in four emulators.
How it works
You place the ingredients in the machine's window (for example the item, jewels and the required zen) and confirm. On success you get the result; on failure you may lose some or all ingredients, depending on the recipe. The Jewel of Chaos is the common ingredient in most recipes.
Rates for +10 to +13 items
In the configuration file, the chance to raise items above +9 sits in four tiers (1 = to +10, 2 = +11, 3 = +12, 4 = +13; newer versions also have +14 and +15), with different values for normal, excellent and set items:

Tips
- Items with Luck get a bonus on many combinations.
- Read the recipe's failure rule first: some only cost zen, others cost the item.
- Servers with VIP may give VIP accounts better rates (each account level's values sit in separate columns of the file).

It depends on the server. In the files we analysed, the configured rate for each tier is in this page's table.
Where is the Chaos Machine?
With the Chaos Goblin NPC, who appears in Noria in the spawn files of every version we document (and in Lorencia in some).
